Service Pack 3 for Windows XP was made available for users to download via Windows Update. It has however been brought to our attention that there are some incompatibilities with Medical Director 3 and this latest service pack for Windows XP.

The issue causes an error whilst importing investigation results into Medical Director. The issue, has been investigated and traced to a particular hotfix included in Service Pack 3 for Windows XP. Please note this issue can also be seen on systems running XP SP2 if the particular hotfix has been applied. If you are experiencing this issue please let us know so that we may rectify the issue for you.

As is the case with all new operating systems service packs and major patches we recommend that you do not install the package until your Clinical/Practice Management software vendors have cleared it for use with their software.

I can’t open this new Word document!

Microsoft released Office 2007, their popular office suite, quite some time ago now. This version of Office is distinctly different from earlier versions in appearance due to the new ‘ribbon’ interface. Office 2007 also introduced new default file formats, with an added ‘x’ in the file extension (such as .docx, .xlsx and .pptx). If you have Office 2007 or the later versions, this isn’t a problem – you will be able to read, edit and save these and all previous office file formats. However, if you are running an older version of the Microsoft Office suite and you recieve a document saved in the new file format, you will not be able to open them by default.

To solve this issue, Microsoft has released a patch for users of Office 2003 & older versions of Office that will allow opening & editing of the new file formats. If you are a customer, do call our support team. We can make the necessary changes to make sure you can open all word documents without doing anything special.
