Microsoft released the latest version of their popular office suite, Office 2007, quite some time ago now. With the release of this version of Office also came the release of some new file formats which are the new default file formats for this version of the office suite. Of course if you have Office 2007 this isn't a problem, you will be able to read, edit and save these and all previous office file formats. The problem is of course if you are running an older version of the office suite and you recieve a document saved in the new file format.

Microsoft have released a patch for Office 2003 users that will allow you to open the new file formats in this older version of the suite. The patch can be downloaded from Microsoft's website at the following address:
